Madrasah Girls Make History in Pakistan

A Landmark Moment in Sports and Faith

In a groundbreaking development in Pakistan’s history, girls from religious seminaries have participated in a national Australian football competition while observing hijab . According to reports, the team belongs to Al-Hareem Center and had been training under the supervision of Haya Hareem for the past month before being selected for the national-level competition.

The participation of these madrasah students in a football tournament has sparked debate across religious and social circles. While the initiative has faced criticism from certain conservative quarters on religious grounds, it has simultaneously been widely appreciated and praised as a bold and progressive step toward empowering girls within faith-based institutions.

Following this historic achievement, the Chairperson of the Australian Football League, Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali, met with Haya Hareem Chairperson of Markaz Al-Hareem. During the meeting, he commended the initiative and assured full support for facilitating these students’ participation in international competitions in the future.

Speaking on the occasion, Haya Hareem stated that if the Australian Football League extends formal patronage and support, it would mark a new chapter in Pakistan’s history—where girls from religious seminaries would represent the country in international sporting events. She emphasized that this achievement demonstrates that faith, modesty, and athletic excellence can coexist, opening new pathways for young girls in religious institutions.
